BRIGANTINE GOLF LINKS
🇺🇸 Brigantine, NJ, USA
Designed by John Van Kleek, Stephen Kay, Wayne Stiles

Brigantine Golf Links occupies a narrow barrier island between the Atlantic Ocean and the mainland marshes of southeastern New Jersey, just north of Atlantic City. Wayne Stiles and John Van Kleek designed the original course in 1927, part of the golden age boom that brought golf to many of the region's coastal communities. The layout makes efficient use of limited land, with holes routed through modest elevation changes and stands of pine and oak that provide definition on what is otherwise relatively flat terrain. The proximity to both ocean and bay creates steady breezes that influence club selection and shot strategy throughout the round.
Stephen Kay completed a restoration and renovation in the early 2000s, working to recapture elements of the Stiles and Van Kleek design while modernizing infrastructure and addressing agronomic needs. The course retains a straightforward, unpretentious character typical of municipal facilities that serve both local residents and visitors to the Atlantic City area. Greens are moderately sized and contoured, and the bunkering reflects the clean, functional style of the original architects rather than dramatic visual flourishes.
Brigantine functions as an accessible public course in a region where golf options range from resort layouts to private clubs. The setting offers views across the marshlands and occasional glimpses of the Atlantic, situating the round within the distinctive coastal landscape of southern New Jersey. The course provides a playable test for a range of skill levels while maintaining ties to its nearly century-old design heritage.
