Bridges at The Bridges Golf Club

The Bridges Golf Club in Gunter, Texas, opened in 2004 as a collaboration between PGA Tour player Fred Couples and Texas-based architect Jeff Brauer. The course sits roughly an hour north of Dallas in the rolling terrain of Grayson County, where the design takes advantage of natural elevation changes and mature tree cover uncommon in much of North Texas. Brauer, known for his work throughout the region, handled the routing and technical design while Couples contributed player perspective and strategic input, a partnership model the architect has employed on several projects.

The layout plays across varied topography with several holes featuring significant elevation shifts and approach shots to greens positioned on hillsides or plateaus. Water comes into play on multiple holes, including ponds and creeks that influence strategy off the tee and on approaches. The design emphasizes playability from forward tees while presenting length and challenge from the back markers, reflecting Couples' preference for courses that accommodate different skill levels without sacrificing strategic interest.

The Bridges operates as a semi-private facility, offering both member and daily-fee play. The club includes practice facilities and a clubhouse that serves the North Texas golf market between the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex and the Oklahoma border. The course has hosted regional amateur events and serves as a tournament venue for area competitions, fitting into the network of upscale daily-fee and semi-private courses that emerged in Texas during the early 2000s development period.
