THE GOLF CLUB AT BRIAR'S CREEK
🇺🇸 Johns Island, SC, USA
Designed by Rees Jones, Steve Weisser

The Golf Club at Briar's Creek occupies a Lowcountry site on Johns Island, South Carolina, designed by Rees Jones with associate Steve Weisser. The course reflects Jones's approach to strategic design within the coastal Carolina landscape, where tidal marshes, maritime forests, and natural water features shape the routing and playing corridors. The property lies in the greater Charleston area, where golf development has balanced residential components with preservation of native ecosystems characteristic of the Sea Islands region.
The layout moves through varied terrain typical of barrier island topography—relatively flat but punctuated by wetlands, live oaks draped with Spanish moss, and tidal creeks that introduce both visual drama and strategic hazards. Jones, known for his work on U.S. Open venues and classical restorations, brings that championship design sensibility to the routing, emphasizing shot values, green contours, and risk-reward decision-making. The course requires thoughtful club selection and course management, particularly where water hazards press against fairways and greens.
Briar's Creek operates as a private club within a residential community, serving members who value access to a well-maintained Jones design in the Charleston golf market. The club provides traditional amenities and dining consistent with Lowcountry private clubs, though it maintains a relatively understated profile compared to some of the region's more historically prominent or tournament-hosting facilities. The course offers a solid test of golf within a setting that emphasizes the natural beauty of coastal South Carolina.
Reviews
One of the most tranquil rounds of golf you might ever have. On a normal day you could be the one of only a few groups on the course. Very elite facilities and would be a great place to call home and work on your game. IMO a lot of the holes start to blend together as you traverse the trees. The most memorable holes to me were the ones along the river. Some cool risk reward holes that challenge you to hit hero shots over the marsh
