Brackenridge Park at Brackenridge Park Golf Course

Brackenridge Park Golf Course is where San Antonio's golfing soul began, a municipal treasure sculpted from the city's heart. Its Golden Age bones, crafted by A.W. Tillinghast, roll across parkland terrain. This is a course that encourages a ground game, rewards strategic angles, and occasionally asks you to thread the needle between venerable oaks guarding the fairways.

While Brackenridge doesn’t command the global spotlight, it wears its local legacy with pride. It has a working class feel even though the area around has become more posh over the decades. It still offers golfers an affordable and accessible round of golf in the heart of the city.

The course underwent a sympathetic restoration spearheaded by John Colligan and Texan golf historian, Jay Morrish, culminating in a memorable moment: hosting the Texas Open in 2008 and 2009. This brought major championship conditions to the course, and although short by modern standards, the tight fairways and deceptive greens proved a true test for even the tour pros.
