BOUNDARY OAK GOLF COURSE
🇺🇸 Walnut Creek, CA, USA
Designed by Robert Muir Graves

Boundary Oak Golf Course opened in 1972 as a public facility in Walnut Creek, designed by California architect Robert Muir Graves. Graves, who worked extensively throughout Northern California during the mid-to-late twentieth century, created a layout that fits within the rolling terrain of the East Bay hills. The course occupies land that transitions between the suburban development of Walnut Creek and the open space of the surrounding hillsides, giving it a semi-rural character despite its proximity to the San Francisco Bay Area's urban core.
The routing works with the natural contours of the property, incorporating elevation changes and mature oak trees that define playing corridors and frame many holes. Graves designed the course to be accessible to a wide range of players while still presenting strategic interest through its use of terrain and hazard placement. The layout features a mix of uphill, downhill, and sidehill lies that require golfers to manage trajectory and club selection throughout the round.
As a municipal facility operated by the City of Walnut Creek, Boundary Oak serves a diverse golfing population and maintains a busy year-round schedule typical of public courses in the Bay Area's mild climate. The course has undergone periodic updates to its conditioning and infrastructure over the decades while retaining the essential character of Graves's original design, which emphasizes playability within a naturally rolling landscape.
