TOWA GOLF CLUB
🇺🇸 Santa Fe, NM, USA
Designed by Hale Irwin, Bill Phillips

Towa Golf Club sits in the high desert terrain north of Santa Fe, where the landscape combines pinon-juniper woodlands with dramatic elevation changes and expansive views of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. Hale Irwin and Bill Phillips designed the facility with two distinct eighteen-hole courses, Boulder and Pinon, both routed across rolling mesas and arroyos characteristic of northern New Mexico's topography. The courses play at elevations above 6,000 feet, where the thin air adds noticeable distance to shots and the dry climate keeps conditions firm year-round.
The Boulder and Pinon courses share the property's natural features—exposed rock outcroppings, native grasses, and scattered stands of pinon pine—while offering different routing challenges. The design works with the existing landforms rather than imposing heavily manufactured features, allowing the terrain's natural movement to shape play. Wide fairways accommodate the high-altitude ball flight, while strategically placed bunkers and native waste areas define landing zones and green complexes.
Towa operates as a private club serving the Santa Fe area, drawing members from the city and surrounding communities. The facility includes practice areas and clubhouse amenities typical of a full-service private club in the region. The courses provide a golf experience distinct to New Mexico's high desert environment, where the combination of altitude, arid conditions, and mountain backdrop creates playing conditions unlike those found in more temperate climates.
