BONNIE BRIAR COUNTRY CLUB
🇺🇸 Larchmont, NY, USA
Designed by A .W. Tillinghast, Devereux Emmet

Bonnie Briar Country Club sits in Larchmont, a Westchester County village along Long Island Sound's northern shore. The course occupies rolling, wooded terrain characteristic of the lower Hudson Valley, where elevation changes and mature tree corridors define playing corridors. The original layout dates to the early twentieth century, with design contributions from both Devereux Emmet and A.W. Tillinghast, two prominent architects of the Golden Age who shaped numerous courses in the New York metropolitan area. Tillinghast's involvement reflects his extensive work throughout the region during the 1920s, while Emmet's influence appears in the routing's integration with the property's natural contours.
The course measures modest by contemporary standards but demands accuracy and strategic thinking through its tree-lined fairways and small, subtly contoured greens typical of the era. Elevation changes create uphill and downhill approaches that complicate club selection, while the property's natural drainage patterns and rock outcroppings occasionally come into play. The layout moves through a residential setting that has evolved around the course over the decades, though mature vegetation maintains separation between holes.
Bonnie Briar functions as a traditional private country club with a membership drawn from Westchester's established communities. The club maintains the social and recreational atmosphere common to suburban New York clubs founded in the early 1900s, balancing golf with family amenities and dining facilities. The course itself represents a preserved example of Golden Age design principles adapted to the constrained, irregular parcels typical of developed Westchester landscapes.
Reviews
Great course! Love the quirks and rock formations and slopes that come into play-no range this spring when I was there so that was a let down. Some of the tee shots get a bit silly and odd, but otherwise the layout is great and good greens complexes
