BONNEVILLE GOLF COURSE
🇺🇸 Salt Lake City, UT, USA
Designed by William Francis Bell

Bonneville Golf Course sits on the east bench of Salt Lake City, where the Wasatch Mountains rise dramatically above the valley floor. Opened in 1929 and designed by California architect William P. Bell, the course occupies rolling terrain that takes advantage of natural elevation changes and mountain views. Bell, who built numerous municipal courses throughout the western United States during the early twentieth century, created a layout here that serves the city's public golf community while working within the constraints of hillside topography.
The routing moves across slopes and gullies characteristic of the mountain bench, with several holes playing uphill or downhill and others traversing the contours. Mature trees line many fairways, and the property offers views westward over the Salt Lake Valley and eastward toward the Wasatch peaks. The design reflects the straightforward, playable style typical of Bell's municipal work from this era, emphasizing accessibility for everyday golfers rather than championship length or severe hazards.
Bonneville has served as a neighborhood course for Salt Lake City residents for nearly a century, maintaining its role as an affordable public facility. The course operates within the city's municipal golf system and sees steady play from local golfers who appreciate its mountain setting and established character. Its location near residential areas and its historical continuity give it a familiar place in the city's recreational landscape.
