THE SHAWNEE INN AND GOLF RESORT
🇺🇸 Shawnee-on-Delaware, PA, USA
Designed by A .W. Tillinghast, Bill Diddel

The Blue Course at The Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort occupies land along the Delaware River in the Pocono Mountains region of northeastern Pennsylvania. A. W. Tillinghast designed the original layout in 1911, making it one of his earlier works before he created his better-known courses in the 1920s. Bill Diddel later contributed modifications to the design. The course sits on relatively flat terrain near the river, with the surrounding mountain landscape providing the setting rather than dramatic elevation changes on the property itself.
The layout reflects Tillinghast's early design principles, though subsequent alterations over the decades have modified some of his original features. The course runs through mature trees and along portions of the Delaware River and Brodhead Creek, with water coming into play on several holes. The routing takes advantage of the natural corridors through the wooded property, and the flat land allows for a walkable round despite the full eighteen-hole length.
The Shawnee Inn property has a long history as a resort destination in the Poconos, and the golf course has served recreational players and resort guests since the early twentieth century. The facility operates as a public-access course available to both resort guests and daily-fee players. The combination of Tillinghast's architectural pedigree and the scenic Delaware Water Gap region gives the course historical interest within Pennsylvania golf, though it functions primarily as a resort amenity rather than a tournament venue.
