OTTAWA HUNT & GOLF CLUB
🇨🇦 Ottawa, Ontario, CA
Designed by Thomas McBroom, Willie Park Jr.
The Ottawa Hunt & Golf Club's Blue course traces its origins to Willie Park Jr., the accomplished Scottish architect and two-time Open Championship winner who designed the original layout in the early 1900s. Park's work in Canada during this period helped establish several prominent clubs, and his routing at Ottawa Hunt took advantage of the natural terrain along the Rideau River valley. Thomas McBroom later renovated and refined the course, bringing modern standards while respecting the property's traditional character.
The Blue course occupies rolling, wooded terrain typical of eastern Ontario's landscape. Mature trees frame many holes, and elevation changes throughout the routing provide variety in stance and shot selection. The layout moves through a mix of open and enclosed corridors, with several holes playing along or across natural contours that influence strategy off the tee and into greens. Water features appear on multiple holes, reflecting the course's proximity to the river system.
Ottawa Hunt & Golf Club maintains a long-standing position in the capital region's golf community, with membership drawn largely from Ottawa's professional and diplomatic circles. The club has hosted provincial championships and regional amateur events over the decades. The Blue course serves as one of two eighteens at the facility, complementing the Red course and providing members with distinct playing experiences on the same property. The club's heritage and Park's original design work contribute to its recognition among Ontario's established private clubs.
