EAST POTOMAC PARK GOLF CLUB
🇺🇸 Washington, DC, USA
Designed by Robert White, Walter Travis
Blue at East Potomac Golf Links is a Washington, D.C. municipal testament to accessible golf carved into a unique island setting. Its accessibility and value are its hallmarks.
Designed by Walter Travis in the early 20th century, Blue at East Potomac is a classic, relatively flat parkland course nestled on an island in the Potomac River. Its tightly knit fairways and mature trees reward accuracy over distance, though the ever-present wind can dramatically alter club selection. The course itself is not particularly notable for major championship play but has been a daily-play staple for local golfers for decades.
East Potomac, including the Blue Course, is a vibrant hub for the District's diverse golfing community. Casual rounds unfold alongside serious practice sessions, fueled by the unpretentious spirit that defines public golf in the nation's capital. It is a reminder that the essence of the game can thrive without the trappings of exclusivity. The park's proximity to national monuments lends a unique backdrop to the links.
Reviews
It’s complicated to rate this. A course I play a lot due to location. It’s sort of a monument to public golf, it’s better than you expect while also being worse than you think. Lot of potential while also seeing how it could be a lot worse. It does make you feel better when you leave and that’s worth something. I truly think it’s rated way too easy, some par 5s stretch to around 600 yards. No real memorable holes but some nice views. It’s worth protecting, but the amount of traffic it attracts makes me think it may never improve.
Best course in the world
As really the only affordable course in the area (besides Langston and Rock Creek) it’s not so bad. Less than $50 to walk and you get some views of the monuments. Could be worse, but could be a lot better. They are growing the game…which for pace of play can be an issue. That being said, lots of locals have a fondness for this course. Good budget balancer to mix in.
