BLOODY POINT GOLF CLUB & RESORT
🇺🇸 Daufuskie Island, SC, USA
Designed by Jay Morrish, Tom Weiskopf
Bloody Point occupies the northern tip of Daufuskie Island, a barrier island off the South Carolina coast accessible only by ferry or private boat. Tom Weiskopf and Jay Morrish designed the course in the mid-1980s as part of a resort development on land rich in Lowcountry history. The routing takes advantage of the island's natural topography and coastal setting, with several holes playing along tidal marshes and offering views across Calibogue Sound toward Hilton Head Island. The design reflects Weiskopf and Morrish's collaborative approach during this period, emphasizing strategic shot values and integration with the native landscape of live oaks, palmettos, and spartina grass.
The course presents a mix of inland and waterfront holes, with the coastal stretch providing both scenic interest and wind exposure that can significantly affect play. Greens are typically elevated and contoured to reward precise approach shots, while bunkers are positioned to challenge both tee shots and short game execution. The layout moves through varied terrain, from higher ground with tree-lined corridors to lower-lying areas where marsh edges define playing corridors and create natural hazards.
Daufuskie Island's remote character shapes the experience at Bloody Point. The island has no bridge connection to the mainland and maintains a quiet, undeveloped atmosphere compared to neighboring resort destinations. Access logistics and the island's isolation contribute to a sense of seclusion that distinguishes a round here from more accessible Lowcountry courses.
