BLACK MOUNTAIN GOLF CLUB
🇨🇦 Kelowna, British Columbia, CA
Designed by Graham Cooke, Wayne Carleton

Black Mountain Golf Club sits on the eastern slopes above Kelowna in British Columbia's Okanagan Valley, where the terrain rises sharply from the lakeshore into forested benchland. Designed by Graham Cooke and Wayne Carleton, the course occupies dramatic hillside property that provides elevation changes throughout the round and views across the valley toward Okanagan Lake. The routing takes advantage of natural contours and rock outcroppings characteristic of the region's dry interior landscape.
The design works with significant topography, moving players through corridors of ponderosa pine and open stretches where sagebrush and native grasses frame the playing corridors. Elevation shifts create a variety of approach angles and require thoughtful club selection, particularly on holes that play uphill or drop away from elevated tees. The property's natural features—exposed rock faces, gullies, and ridgelines—shape strategy and add visual definition to the layout.
Black Mountain serves a membership drawn from the Kelowna area and visiting golfers exploring the Okanagan's collection of courses. The region's warm, dry summers and relatively mild climate support a long playing season compared to other parts of British Columbia. The course reflects the character of Okanagan golf: mountain backdrops, varied terrain, and a setting that blends recreational appeal with the technical demands of hillside design.
