Black Creek, nestled in the folds of Cummings Cove near Chattanooga, is a testament to the enduring appeal of classic parkland golf. Carved into the rolling Tennessee landscape during the Modern era, its tree-lined fairways and strategic bunkering present a deceptively gentle challenge. Errant tee shots are punished by thick stands of hardwoods, rewarding players who favor thoughtful course management over sheer power. Black Creek favors a draw with its dog legs, making you think twice before picking up the big stick. Designed by Brian Silva, a disciple of the classic school, the course prioritizes shot-making and angles, reminiscent of designs from an earlier age. Silva’s routing expertly utilizes the natural topography, creating a diverse collection of holes that demand a variety of approaches. The par-5s are reachable in two for the bold, while the demanding par-3s often require precise iron play to navigate the undulating greens. While Black Creek has not hosted major championships, it serves as a beloved proving ground for the region’s top amateurs and club members. Known for its unpretentious atmosphere and commitment to the traditions of the game, Black Creek cultivates a strong sense of community amongst its members. And while there's no burger dog like Olympic Club, members often compete to see who can eat the most chili dogs after a round.
