STREAMSONG RESORT, GOLF & SPA
🇺🇸 Bowling Green, FL, USA
Designed by Gil Hanse
Streamsong Black, the third championship course at Streamsong Resort, announces itself boldly across the reclaimed landscape of central Florida’s phosphate mining region. Designed by Gil Hanse, the course reflects a contemporary architectural ethos while simultaneously echoing design philosophies of the Golden Age. Hanse has routed a course that emphasizes width and strategic options for players, featuring expansive fairways and boldly contoured greens. Black rarely punishes wayward tee shots with thick rough; instead, it presents golfers with difficult angles and challenging recovery shots, demanding creative thinking and precise execution on every approach.
Unlike its sister courses which weave through towering sand dunes, Streamsong Black sits atop a relatively flatter terrain. The course is nonetheless brimming with drama and visual flair, thanks to Hanse's skillful use of shaping and mounding, which subtly define playing corridors. The course often favors players who can work the ball both ways, with many holes presenting strategic doglegs that reward thoughtful shot placement over brute power. The par-3 eighth, named "The Gauntlet", demands a precise carry over a hazard to a postage stamp green.
While Streamsong Black hasn't hosted any major professional tournaments, it's become a popular destination for serious amateurs and golf enthusiasts looking for a pure and challenging golfing experience. The Black course is known for its walking-only policy, encouraging players to fully engage with the natural surroundings and appreciate the strategic nuances of Hanse's design, although caddies are available to help traverse the landscape.
Adding to Streamsong Black’s unique character is its distinctive halfway house. Known as "The Ike Shack", it’s a playfully named nod to President Dwight D. Eisenhower, a keen golfer himself. Here, players can enjoy a selection of refreshments and simple, well-prepared food in a relaxed setting, a perfect complement to the demanding yet rewarding golf on offer.
Reviews
fun golf course
I enjoy the Black course. A lot of people rank it last out of the Streamsong courses but I think the challenge of the greens makes it a unique experience. It’s a great layout for a resort that has multiple courses. Different flavors.
One of a kind in terms of green size and variety. You have the opportunity to get extremely creative getting the ball to the hole in terms of approach play, chipping, and putting. In my mind it’s the course on property I would currently choose to replay over Red/Blue even though I loved all of them. Put any of them on the ocean and they suddenly are top 100.
Superb golf resort. Everything you would need for a fantastic buddies trip. Black course was really my favorite, feels like you’re on a different planet out there and it’s such a funky course. Such a blast
An absolute beauty. Greens are glass, back nine plays tougher than the front. Amazing caddy, amazing course. Make sure to get good out of the sand if you play. Fish tacos are amazing. Halfway house has great food also.
I have a general rule of thumb: if a course has a windmill it’s probably gonna be sick. The black course proved that theory correct. The fun fact the caddies gave us is that if you add up the square footage of the greens on the black course it is greater in area then the red and blue greens combined. This course is so unique and fun, it is truly unlike anything I have ever played before. The tee shots and approach shots are not too challenging, but 100 yards and in is so sick. I really like how much short grass is around the greens versus it just being sand or rough. Cannot recommend enough how much fun the putting course is. Highly recommend going over early or staying post round with your boys and doing putting games for gator lagers. If you ever play this course I highly recommend getting the free ice cream bars from the snack shack. They are incredible.
Streamsong Black is the 3rd course at Streamsong designed by Gil Hanse. It's a tough task designing a 3rd course after two top 25 courses were already built, but Hanse did a great job. Black has the biggest and craziest greens I've ever played, the punchbowl 9th is truly ridiculous (in a good way). The course is a little less flowing compared to Red/Blue, which is why I don't have it rated quite as high, but it's still a bucket list course!
My favorite of the Streamsong courses. Giant greens. Felt like you were golfing on the moon. Course was in fantastic condition and caddies were top notch.
Amazing bar actually. Wild course.
