Bernardus Golf and Country Club

Bernardus Golf and Country Club is located in Cromvoirt, in the province of North Brabant in the southern Netherlands. The course was designed by Kyle Phillips, the American architect known for his work on Kingsbarns in Scotland and other links-inspired designs, and opened in 2010. The facility is part of a larger estate development that includes the Bernardus Lodge, creating an integrated golf and hospitality destination in the Dutch countryside. The course occupies relatively flat terrain typical of the region but incorporates significant earthmoving and water features to create strategic interest and visual definition. Phillips shaped the property with broad, undulating fairways, substantial bunkering, and multiple water hazards that come into play on several holes. The routing takes advantage of mature trees and hedgerows that frame holes and provide separation between playing corridors. The design emphasizes width off the tee with challenge concentrated around the greens, which feature considerable contour and are protected by deep bunkers. Bernardus serves as a private club and also accommodates resort guests staying at the lodge. The facility includes practice areas and a clubhouse that reflects the estate's focus on hospitality and dining. The course has hosted professional events on the Dutch golf calendar and provides a championship-length test from the back tees. Within the Netherlands, where true links terrain is absent, Bernardus represents a modern parkland design that brings international design sensibilities to the Dutch golf landscape.
