BENALUP GOLF AND COUNTRY CLUB
🇪🇸 Benalup-Casas Viejas, Andalucia, ES
Designed by Paul Rolin
Benalup Golf and Country Club occupies rolling terrain in the Cádiz province of Andalusia, situated inland from the Costa de la Luz between the towns of Benalup-Casas Viejas and Medina-Sidonia. Designed by Paul Rolin and opened in the early 1990s, the course takes advantage of the region's natural undulations and Mediterranean vegetation, with cork oaks, olive trees, and native scrub framing many holes. The setting provides views toward the surrounding Andalusian countryside, with the Sierra de Grazalema visible in the distance on clear days.
The layout measures just over 6,000 meters from the back tees and plays as a par 72, routing across varied elevations that create both uphill and downhill shots throughout the round. Water features come into play on several holes, and the design incorporates strategic bunkering that rewards accurate placement over pure distance. The course serves primarily local and regional members along with visitors exploring the less-traveled golf destinations of southern Spain, away from the more concentrated resort areas closer to the coast.
Benalup represents the style of parkland-influenced courses built across inland Andalusia during Spain's golf expansion of the 1990s, offering a relatively straightforward test that emphasizes course management and solid ball-striking. The club maintains a relaxed atmosphere typical of smaller Spanish country clubs, with traditional Andalusian cuisine available in the clubhouse.
