Beacon Hill at Beacon Hill Country Club

Beacon Hill Country Club sits on elevated terrain in Atlantic Highlands, New Jersey, offering views across the Raritan Bay toward the Manhattan skyline and Sandy Hook. The course occupies a distinctive site along the northern New Jersey coast, where the Highlands rise sharply from sea level to create some of the most dramatic topography in the region. This natural elevation provides both scenic vistas and significant changes in grade throughout the routing.

The original layout was designed by Alec Ternyei, a lesser-known architect who worked primarily in the mid-Atlantic region during the mid-twentieth century. Stephen Kay, a prominent New Jersey-based architect known for restoration and renovation work at classic courses throughout the Northeast, later redesigned or renovated portions of the course. Kay's involvement typically brings attention to strategic bunkering, green contours, and routing refinements that honor traditional design principles while accommodating modern playing standards.

The course navigates rolling to hilly terrain, with holes that move across ridges and through lower corridors. The elevation changes create variety in shot requirements and playing angles, while the coastal setting introduces wind as a regular factor in club selection and strategy. Beacon Hill serves a private membership in the northern Monmouth County area, part of a region with a long golf tradition and proximity to the New York metropolitan area.
