BAYONNE GOLF CLUB
🇺🇸 Bayonne, NJ, USA
Designed by Eric Bergstol, Roy Case
Bayonne Golf Club isn't just built on landfill; it’s sculpted from ambition, rising improbably above the industrial landscape of New Jersey's waterfront. A striking counterpoint to its surroundings, the links-style design, a product of the early 2000s, demands bold play across undulating fairways and windswept fescue. Errant shots are penalized severely, funneling the ball into unforgiving bunkers and thick rough.
Designed by Eric Bergstol, the course presents a modern interpretation of classic links architecture. While visually dramatic with its stark contrasts and sweeping vistas of the New York skyline, it's the strategic challenges and exacting approaches that define the Bayonne experience. The course favors players who can control their trajectory and manage the wind.
The club exudes a determined, independent spirit, reflected in its membership drawn from diverse backgrounds. It's a place where fortunes are discussed openly, and the competition is fierce but imbued with a distinctly irreverent attitude. Perhaps Bayonne's most cherished tradition is its rumored '19th hole' stakes, adding a layer of intrigue and camaraderie to post-round analysis.
Reviews
One of the coolest courses I have ever played. Not sure there’s anything else like it out there unless you go to the UK. So much fun and so challenging
Just not my style. Didn’t love the first 5 or so holes. Would give it another shot but not itching to go back.
Really cool experience. Would you want to play this course every day? Probably not because it feels so man made. Would you want to play this once a quarter? Absolutely. Being able to see the Statue of Liberty from the course and hitting range balls into the bay are the highlights of a trip to Bayonne.
Chambers Bay adjacent but somehow more fun and better designed. Super welcoming upon arrival as well. Conditions were mint and just a fun day. Shoutout Joe
Has the feel of a Scottish links with the hills and lack of trees. Some awesome views of NYC and the Hudson River. Fun to play once or twice.
One of the home spots, always fun and a great walk.
