SEAVIEW MARRIOTT GOLF RESORT
🇺🇸 Galloway, NJ, USA
Designed by Donald Ross
The Bay Course at Seaview Marriott Golf Resort in Galloway, New Jersey, represents Donald Ross's work in the coastal landscape of southern New Jersey. Designed in 1914, the course was part of Ross's prolific period when he created layouts throughout the eastern United States. The property sits inland from the Atlantic Ocean, positioned among the pine barrens and coastal plain vegetation characteristic of this region between Atlantic City and the shore communities.
Ross's routing takes advantage of the relatively flat terrain typical of the area, incorporating his signature strategic bunkering and subtly contoured greens that reward precise approach play. The course features the kind of understated design principles Ross favored, where challenge comes more from green complexes and strategic positioning than from dramatic elevation changes. The sandy soil provides firm playing conditions and good drainage, qualities that suit traditional shot-making.
Seaview has hosted competitive golf over its history, including the ShopRite LPGA Classic, which was played here for many years. The resort operates both the Bay Course and the Pines Course, with the Bay generally considered the more historically significant of the two given its Ross pedigree. The facility functions as a resort course, accessible to guests and daily-fee players, and maintains the kind of parkland character common to early twentieth-century designs in this part of New Jersey. The course provides a playable example of Ross's design philosophy in a region where his work is less commonly found than in the Carolinas or New England.
Reviews
If you want good views and a nice ocean breeze this is for you. However, the course is a bit cramped and a bit too short for its own good. Greens are ok and the course can be enjoyable if you aren’t stuck for 5 hours.
Seaview Bay is a real old school Donald Ross design that relies on sea views, because the actual layout and conditions aren’t that great. Not a test for the modern game tipping out at just about 6,300. A few typical Ross greens but overall an underwhelming experience.
Just hope the wind is coming from the west…
Shot at the time career low 82 here, so it gets the ranking it deserves.
Good bones. Overpriced, bad condition, slow play
Greens were really tough. Would’ve liked a little more variety in the par 3s. Enjoyed it though!
