BATTLEGROUND COUNTRY CLUB
🇺🇸 Manalapan, NJ, USA
Designed by Hal Purdy

Battleground Country Club sits in Manalapan, in central New Jersey's Monmouth County, a region that has seen steady residential and golf development since the mid-twentieth century. The course was designed by Hal Purdy, a prolific architect who worked extensively across the northeastern United States during the 1960s and 1970s. Purdy's designs typically emphasize playability for a range of skill levels while incorporating the natural terrain available on each site.
The Manalapan area features gently rolling topography characteristic of New Jersey's inner coastal plain, with mature tree growth framing many layouts built during this era. Courses in this region often navigate modest elevation changes and incorporate water features, either natural or constructed, as strategic elements. The routing likely takes advantage of these landscape features to create variety in hole character and shot requirements throughout the round.
Battleground serves as a private club facility for its membership, providing a home course for regular play and club competitions. The name itself suggests historical significance to the area, as Monmouth County was the site of Revolutionary War activity, including the nearby Battle of Monmouth in 1778. Like many country clubs in suburban New Jersey communities, the club functions as both a golf venue and a social center for members and their families, with dining and event facilities complementing the golf course itself.
Reviews
Decent neighborhood private. Fun to play but some stupid holes. Tight fairways and a lot of trees. Best hole is 17, drivable par 4. And 12, mid length par 4 with some nice bunkering
