Battlefield Golf Course sits in Richmond, Kentucky, a college town in the central Bluegrass region about thirty miles south of Lexington. The layout takes its name from the nearby Battle of Richmond site, a significant Civil War engagement from August 1862, lending historical context to the property. Fritz, a regional architect with numerous Kentucky designs to his credit, incorporated the existing topography rather than extensive earthmoving, resulting in a course that reflects the natural contours of the Bluegrass landscape. Fairways are generally generous, though strategic bunkering and tree placement reward accurate positioning for approach shots. Battlefield serves primarily as a public facility, drawing local golfers from Richmond and Madison County as well as visitors to the area, including those connected to Eastern Kentucky University. The course provides a straightforward test suitable for a range of skill levels, with length and hazard placement offering enough challenge for competitive play while remaining accessible to recreational rounds.
