BARNSLEY INN & GOLF
🇺🇸 Adairsville, GA, USA
Designed by Jim Fazio
The Barnsley Inn course sits on the grounds of the historic Barnsley Resort in Adairsville, Georgia, roughly an hour northwest of Atlanta in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. Jim Fazio designed the layout, which opened in the early 2000s as part of the resort's development around the ruins of a mid-19th century estate. The course occupies rolling terrain marked by hardwood forests, natural elevation changes, and several streams that wind through the property, creating both scenic backdrops and strategic hazards.
Fazio routed the eighteen holes to take advantage of the topography, incorporating elevation shifts that require thoughtful club selection and course management. The layout moves through wooded corridors and opens onto meadow-like areas, with the natural landscape shaping the character of individual holes. Water features come into play on several holes, and the design emphasizes accuracy over distance, rewarding players who navigate the tree-lined fairways and avoid the creeks that cross or parallel certain holes.
The course serves primarily resort guests and members staying at or visiting Barnsley Resort, which is known for its gardens, historic ruins, and Southern hospitality. The golf experience integrates with the broader resort amenities, including lodging, dining, and spa facilities. The setting offers a retreat atmosphere, with the course designed to complement rather than dominate the property's heritage and natural environment.
