LA ROMANA COUNTRY CLUB
🇩🇴 La Romana, La Romana, DO
Designed by P. B. Dye
La Romana Country Club's Back/New combination draws from the work of P. B. Dye, who designed the New nine as part of the club's expansion in the Dominican Republic's southeastern coastal region. The course sits within the broader La Romana resort community, an area known for its concentration of golf facilities including the celebrated Teeth of the Dog course. The Dye family's involvement in the region spans decades, and P. B. Dye—son of Pete Dye—brought his own interpretation of the family's design principles to this layout, which serves primarily as a members' course complementing the resort's more famous offerings.
The routing takes advantage of the relatively flat Caribbean coastal terrain, with the design incorporating strategic bunkering, water features, and the kind of angular, geometric shaping characteristic of Dye family work. The New nine integrates with the existing Back nine to create an eighteen-hole experience that emphasizes shot placement over raw distance. Prevailing trade winds influence club selection and strategy, particularly on exposed holes where the breeze can shift conditions significantly throughout a round.
The club operates within the Casa de Campo resort complex, which has established La Romana as a golf destination since the 1970s. While the Back/New combination does not host professional tournaments with the frequency of its more famous neighbor, it provides a solid test for members and resort guests seeking variety beyond the signature oceanside holes found elsewhere in the property.
