INDUSTRY HILLS GOLF CLUB AT PACIFIC PALMS RESORT
🇺🇸 City of Industry, CA, USA
Designed by Casey O'Callaghan, William Francis Bell
The Babe Zaharias Course at Industry Hills Golf Club at Pacific Palms Resort occupies rolling terrain in the City of Industry, located in the San Gabriel Valley east of Los Angeles. Designed by William F. Bell with Casey O'Callaghan and opened in 1979, the course was part of a larger resort development that transformed former industrial land into a golf destination. Bell, a prolific Southern California architect, created a layout that takes advantage of the property's natural elevation changes and canyon features, producing a course with significant terrain variation uncommon in the Los Angeles basin.
The routing moves through hillside corridors with elevation shifts that create both uphill and downhill playing angles. Several holes play across or along ravines, requiring carries and approach shots to greens positioned on different levels than the fairways. The course measures over 6,600 yards from the back tees and presents a test that emphasizes course management and shot placement over pure length. Views extend across the valley to the San Gabriel Mountains when conditions allow.
Industry Hills operated as a public facility and resort for decades, hosting numerous regional amateur and professional events during its peak years. The property has undergone ownership and management changes over time, and the Babe Zaharias Course represents the more challenging of the facility's two original eighteen-hole layouts. The course is named after the legendary multi-sport athlete and professional golfer Babe Didrikson Zaharias, reflecting the Southern California golf community's connection to the game's history.
Reviews
