AVON FIELDS GOLF COURSE
🇺🇸 Cincinnati, OH, USA
Designed by Bill Diddel

Avon Fields Golf Course is a public facility in Cincinnati, Ohio, designed by Bill Diddel, a regional architect active primarily in the mid-twentieth century. Diddel designed numerous courses throughout Ohio and neighboring states during a period when municipal and accessible public golf was expanding across the Midwest. His work typically emphasized playability for a wide range of golfers while working within the rolling terrain characteristic of southwestern Ohio.
The course sits in the Cincinnati area, where the landscape features the kind of moderate elevation changes and tree-lined corridors common to courses built in this region during Diddel's era. Layouts from this period and location generally incorporate natural contours into their routing, with doglegs and strategic bunkering that reward local knowledge and thoughtful course management. The design philosophy of Diddel's generation focused on creating enjoyable golf for everyday players rather than championship tests.
As a public course in a major metropolitan area, Avon Fields serves the local golfing community with accessible tee times and straightforward amenities. The facility reflects the practical, community-oriented approach to golf course development that characterized much of American public golf construction in the decades following World War II, when the game's popularity surged and municipalities sought to provide recreational opportunities for residents.
Reviews
I believe this is a bona fide L&M design? At any rate, this course plays an important role in the Black golf scene in Cincinnati so you know I was gonna pay a visit. Would very much recommend even if it hadn’t. Sneaky good design elements throughout and the pro shop guy made a coney run for us.
