AVIARA GOLF CLUB
🇺🇸 Carlsbad, CA, USA
Designed by Arnold Palmer, Ed Seay
Aviara Golf Club, carved into the sun-drenched bluffs above the Batiquitos Lagoon in Carlsbad, is a resort course that enjoys a daily cadence of ocean breezes. Designed by Arnold Palmer, this is quintessential California golf, where meticulously manicured fairways wind through native wildflowers and strategically placed bunkers demand consideration, rather than brute force, off the tee. The generous fairways initially suggest a forgiving round, but subtle undulations and Palmer's penchant for well-protected greens quickly remind players that precision is rewarded.
The course, a relative newcomer compared to some of the state's grand dames, is decidedly modern in its approach. It favors a strategic game, rewarding those who can navigate the doglegs and properly judge the wind. Aviara has hosted the LPGA Kia Classic (now the JTBC Classic) since 2013, an event where the world's best female golfers have consistently tested the course's subtle defenses.
Though not steeped in century-old lore, Aviara has quickly cultivated a loyal following among both resort guests and local players who appreciate its consistently excellent conditions and thoughtfully designed layout. The club is known for its welcoming atmosphere and its commitment to providing a high-end experience, a reflection of its proximity to some of San Diego's most desirable coastal communities.
Reviews
Best course is San Diego! Skip Torrey, play Avi
beautifully maintained
Played here through an SCGA Member Outing for a discounted price. For $220 I would say that this course is very much worth the experience. Basically a country club level experience on a public course.
I played here in the winter - probably a mistake given the main draw to the course is the landscaping. Solid resort track but would only go back in-season.
Nothing special, decent track if staying at resort
More strategic than the average resort course. Would definitely play again, but not a place I’d plan a trip around.
Like golfing in an arboretum. I wouldn’t expect to be a sucker for landscaping on the golf course but wow. Impressive, and fun.
It's fine, it's definitely notbucket list. Would play again.
