AUGUSTA NATIONAL GOLF CLUB
🇺🇸 Augusta, GA, USA
Designed by Alister Mackenzie, Bobby Jones

Augusta National remains synonymous with the flowering azaleas of April and the pursuit of golf’s most coveted green jacket. Nestled in the heart of Augusta, Georgia, the course is a meticulously sculpted parkland masterpiece. Known for its undulating fairways and heavily contoured greens, it favors strategic play and rewards bold approaches, particularly on the iconic back nine's Amen Corner.
Originally conceived by Bobby Jones and Alister MacKenzie during the Golden Age of golf architecture, the course has seen subtle but significant refinements over the years, most notably with input from Perry Maxwell and later, significant lengthening and strategic adjustments overseen by numerous architects to maintain its challenge for the modern game.
As the permanent home of The Masters Tournament, Augusta National holds a singular position in the sport. The club's membership, famously selective and steeped in tradition, comprises luminaries from business, politics, and the sporting world. In keeping with this theme of tradition, The Crow's Nest - a room atop the clubhouse reserved for amateurs playing in the Masters - remains an important tradition for amateurs competing in the event.
Reviews
It’s Augusta National
Every bit as good as advertised, was lucky enough to play a couple weeks after the Masters 10 years ago. 36 plus the par 3 course (even par there) made birdies on 12 back right, 4 front middle. You’ve never ever played a course in this condition.
Augusta National is a very challenging experience for me. Everywhere I turn is a reminder of a moment in golf history. It’s sensory overload and it’s very distracting. The greens are mesmerizing and I could spend hours on each one. There is enormous width to the fairway corridors and with the exceptions from the members tees at 5,7,9,13 and 14 it’s a very pleasing experience to your eyes. The golf course needs to be firm to take on its most interesting character. The tilt and roll of the land is never ending and it’s rare to get a truly level lie. The agronomics are as close to perfect as you’ll see anywhere. It’s an amazingly quiet place and that adds to the unnerving effect the place can have on you.
What is there to say that hasn’t already been said about Augusta National? The history, the facilities, the cabins, the golf course… all the best that there is in golf. And yet it’s the Southern hospitality that stood out the most to me. Every element of the club is designed to make the experience incredible for guests of members. Surprisingly relaxed, at least from what I expected. The attention to detail from the staff is mind boggling. I’ve never felt more welcomed and taken care of. Makes every 5 star hotel and 3 star restaurant look lacking by comparison. The food is also incredible.
