ATLANTIC NATIONAL GOLF CLUB
🇺🇸 Lake Worth, FL, USA
Designed by Joe Lee
Atlantic National, carved from the flatlands west of Greenacres, reflects a transition in design philosophy. Born in the late 20th century, the course rejects the prevailing trends for visual trickery; instead, its wide fairways and subtle undulations favor power and thoughtful approaches, albeit on a largely unremarkable landscape. While it won't punish wayward drives harshly, a long day of golf will punish the body, mind, and soul.
Designed by Joe Lee, Atlantic National reflects his straightforward approach, prioritizing playability for its membership. Bunkering is strategically placed to encourage calculated risk, while the generous greens offer ample opportunity for scoring. The course has not hosted national tournaments of note, it provides a stern test for players of all skill levels, but the more accomplished players will likely find it accessible with the driver.
Atlantic National remains a popular club in the Palm Beach area, known for a relaxed and unpretentious atmosphere. While the course itself may not garner widespread acclaim, its true value lies in fostering a tight-knit community. The nineteenth hole is the scene for many great tall tales, some true, and many enhanced by the camaraderie of its membership. And speaking of the 19th hole, the bar is known for its conch fritters—a local favorite and a staple of post-round gatherings.
