SEA PINES RESORT
🇺🇸 Hilton Head Island, SC, USA
Designed by Davis Love III
Atlantic Dunes, carved into the bones of Hilton Head Island's earliest golf landscape, presents a stark contrast to its manicured neighbors; it's a deliberate step back in time. Originally crafted by George Cobb in 1962, the course enjoyed a respectful refresh from Davis Love III in 2016, embracing the wildness of the coastal terrain.
The course plays firm and fast, encouraging creative shot-making along the windswept dunes. Wide fairways belie the challenge, as unpredictable bounces and cleverly placed bunkers punish the errant. Atlantic Dunes favors players who can shape shots, navigate the doglegs, and trust their instincts amidst the ever-shifting coastal breezes. While the competition isn't elevated like other courses on the island, the course still serves the resort and regional players looking for a round.
The charm of Atlantic Dunes lies as much in its natural setting as its design. The course is known to have maintained its strong membership base, of mostly local islanders. This strong sense of community fosters a warm atmosphere, where rounds often extend into post-game camaraderie and friendly competition.

Think I got DJ at the end...
The Atlantic Dunes and Heron Point setup in Sea Pines is easily one of my favorite spots to play golf. Davis Love III did an incredible job with the redesign here, which officially opened in 2017. From the moment you pull up, everything just feels right — the staff at bag drop are always welcoming, the pro shop has tons of great options, and the food and drinks are top notch. It’s got that relaxed but elevated Hilton Head feel that makes the day special before you even tee off. The course itself is always in fantastic shape. You can really tell they take pride in the conditioning — lush fairways, pure greens, and those Lowcountry sand dunes and native grasses perfectly blended throughout the layout. It’s such a fun mix of coastal golf and traditional parkland style. There are plenty of hazards and sharp doglegs that make you think on every hole, and accuracy off the tee definitely pays off here. The par-3 15th is the signature hole, and for good reason — it’s set right up against the beach, framed by dunes and sea oats, and one of the most scenic shots in the area. That stretch coming in is no joke either. If you can finish strong through 16–18, you’ve earned it. What really stands out to me though are the facilities and overall vibe. The driving range might be one of my favorites anywhere — multiple hitting areas, great music playing, a relaxed atmosphere, and a really nice short-game setup too. It’s the kind of range you could hang out at for hours. Between Atlantic Dunes, Heron Point, and Harbour Town, Sea Pines has built something pretty special. If they ever added one more full course or a solid short course, it could easily be one of the top golf destinations in the country.
Expensive round but an amazing course in such great shape with some awesome views. Definitely the #1 course on Hilton Head Island.
Better then Harbour town…

Humbling golf experience, bunkers are top notch.
