Atlantic at Penha Longa Golf Club

The Atlantic Course at Penha Longa Golf Club occupies rolling terrain in the Sintra hills northwest of Lisbon, part of a resort property that includes a historic monastery converted to a luxury hotel. Robert Trent Jones, Jr. designed the course in the early 1990s as part of the resort's development, routing holes through pine and eucalyptus forests with significant elevation changes and views toward both the Atlantic Ocean and the Sintra mountain range. The course features Jones's characteristic strategic design elements, including large, contoured greens defended by substantial bunkering and water hazards that come into play on multiple holes. The back nine is generally considered more dramatic, with greater elevation change and more exposed positions on the higher ground of the property.
