ASH BROOK GOLF COURSE
🇺🇸 Scotch Plains, NJ, USA
Designed by Alfred H. Tull, Robert Trent Jones Sr.

Ash Brook Golf Course occupies rolling terrain in Scotch Plains, in Union County's central New Jersey landscape. The course was originally designed by Alfred H. Tull and later modified by Robert Trent Jones Sr., whose involvement brought characteristic strategic bunkering and green complexes to the layout. The property serves as a public facility within the Union County park system, making it accessible to a broad range of golfers in the densely populated northern New Jersey corridor.
The routing moves across varied topography that includes elevation changes and wooded corridors typical of the region's glacially-shaped landscape. Jones's redesign work introduced his signature design elements—larger, contoured greens defended by strategically placed bunkers and an emphasis on approach shot accuracy. The course requires players to navigate both distance and placement challenges, with several holes playing uphill or downhill and demanding thoughtful club selection.
As a county-operated facility, Ash Brook serves both regular public play and hosts local amateur competitions throughout the season. The course provides a solid test of golf within the public access framework, combining the foundational work of Tull with Jones's refinements. Its location within the Union County system places it among several other public courses in the area, offering golfers in northern New Jersey a Robert Trent Jones-influenced design without the requirements of private club membership.
Reviews
Course STINKS. The bones of the layout isn’t bad, but conditions are always horrible, every time I’ve been. Relatively new clubhouse is nice with a cool restaurant, so there’s that at least.
