Aphrodite Hills

Aphrodite Hills occupies a dramatic coastal plateau above Paphos on Cyprus's southwestern shore, designed by Cabell B. Robinson and opened in 2002. The course sits within an integrated resort development that takes its name from the nearby legendary birthplace of the Greek goddess Aphrodite. Robinson, known for his work throughout Europe and the Mediterranean, routed the eighteen holes across undulating terrain that transitions from elevated inland positions to dramatic cliffside settings overlooking the Mediterranean Sea.

The layout makes extensive use of the natural topography, with significant elevation changes throughout the round and several holes playing along or toward the coastline. The signature sequences occur on the back nine, where holes run closer to the cliff edges and offer views across the sea. Robinson incorporated native Cypriot vegetation and rocky outcroppings into the design, creating a visual contrast between manicured playing surfaces and the rugged Mediterranean landscape. Water features appear on several holes, and the bunkering style reflects Robinson's preference for strategic placement rather than excessive penal hazards.

The course serves as the centerpiece of a resort community that includes residential villas, hotel accommodations, and recreational facilities. It has hosted professional events on the European developmental tours and remains the most prominent championship-length golf facility in Cyprus. The Mediterranean climate allows for year-round play, and the course attracts both resort guests and visiting golfers drawn to the island's combination of ancient history, coastal scenery, and relatively accessible golf in the eastern Mediterranean region.
