ANGELES NATIONAL GOLF CLUB
🇺🇸 Sunland, CA, USA
Designed by Jack Nicklaus
Angeles National Golf Club, carved into the rugged foothills north of Los Angeles, offers a starkly beautiful contrast to the city below. This is modern golf played against a backdrop of untamed California landscape.
Designed by Nicklaus Design, Angeles National presents a challenging layout demanding strategic play. Generous fairways invite aggressive drives, but errant shots are swiftly penalized by the native barranca that bisect many holes. Known as a "shot makers course", the greens are true and fast, but heavily guarded by bunkers and run off areas.
While not a championship venue steeped in decades of tournament history, Angeles National provides a stern test for golfers of all skill levels. More known for its scenic views and rigorous terrain, Angeles National is a great test of golf and a great place to escape Los Angeles.
Angeles National maintains a strong local following and stands as a testament to modern course design that blends seamlessly with its natural surroundings. A challenging round is typically followed by drinks and conversation on the patio, where a surprisingly diverse membership—ranging from Hollywood professionals to local business owners—gathers to recount the day's triumphs and near misses.
Reviews
Not a bad course-greens are kept well, but the rest of the course is a bit worn. Firm fairways and hard kicks make tee shots go far but also could give bad breaks. Layout is mostly good but a few greens complexes are badly turtle shelled and play frustrating
I really don't enjoy playing here. It's usually in pretty good shape, but it always feels like a front for something else. The pricing is three times higher than any other public place in Los Angeles. They constantly have open teetimes. It feels like they want it that way. Very Nicklaus golf course. Not a ton of strategy. Hit the ball here and then hit the ball there and if you don't do that, deep trouble.
Nothing overly impressive about this place. The fact that it's surrounded by a lot of poor golf options makes it seem like it shines brighrter than it does.
