CLUB DE GOLF ACAPULCO
🇲🇽 Acapulco, Guerrero, MX
Designed by Percy Clifford
Club de Golf Acapulco occupies a hillside site overlooking Acapulco Bay on Mexico's Pacific coast. Percy Clifford designed the course in the mid-twentieth century during the resort city's golden era as an international destination. The routing takes advantage of the dramatic topography, with holes moving across steep slopes and ridgelines that provide views of both the bay and the surrounding Sierra Madre del Sur mountains.
The layout features significant elevation changes throughout, requiring golfers to navigate uphill and downhill shots on most holes. The tropical climate supports lush vegetation, including palm trees and flowering plants that frame fairways and define playing corridors. The terrain creates natural strategic interest, with doglegs following the contours of the hillside and greens often positioned on plateaus or shelves carved into the slopes.
The club has served as a gathering place for Acapulco's social scene since its opening, hosting both local members and visitors to the resort area. The property's location near the city center and hotel zone made it accessible during Acapulco's peak tourism decades. The course remains one of the few traditional golf facilities in the immediate Acapulco area, maintaining its role as a recreational amenity in a city better known for beaches and nightlife than golf. The combination of coastal views, mountainous terrain, and tropical setting gives the course a distinctive character among Mexican layouts.
