ABBEY SPRINGS GOLF COURSE
🇺🇸 Fontana, WI, USA
Designed by Ken Killiaick Nugent

Abbey Springs Golf Course, cradled along the shores of Geneva Lake, is a testament to Midwestern charm, where generations have learned the game amidst the rolling Wisconsin countryside. The original layout, designed by William F. Mitchell, emerged in the 1940s, showcasing a parkland style that meanders through mature hardwoods and subtly undulating terrain. The course favors strategic play and a deft touch around the greens, with deceptively challenging par-3s that require precise distance control.
Subsequent enhancements by Larry Packard introduced more modern design elements, adding length and complexity to several holes without sacrificing the course's inherent playability. Water comes into play on several holes, demanding careful club selection and course management. While Abbey Springs may not be a regular stop on professional tours, it remains a beloved fixture among local golfers, providing a competitive yet welcoming environment for players of all skill levels.
The club embodies a relaxed, unpretentious atmosphere. Abbey Springs is known for its welcoming and close-knit membership with social events and gatherings that extend beyond the fairways. A unique tradition at Abbey Springs is the "Sunset Nine," where members gather for a casual round in the evening, often followed by lively conversation and camaraderie on the clubhouse patio, overlooking the lake.
Reviews
Great conditions and some cool holes. However, thought some of the holes were very basic as well. I’m from Illinois but if I come in to the area, I’d rather play Hawks View for a similar price. Some may disagree with that but I think it’s the better layout
