PINEHURST RESORT & COUNTRY CLUB
🇺🇸 Pinehurst, NC, USA
Designed by Tom Fazio
Number 8 at Pinehurst stands as a testament to the evolving landscape of golf course architecture, reflecting the ambitions and styles of multiple eras. Carved into the rolling sandhills of North Carolina, its terrain offers a distinct blend of open vistas and strategically placed pines, presenting golfers with a course that demands both power and thoughtful shot-making.
Originally designed by Tom Fazio, with later enhancements by his son, Logan, No. 8 moves away from the stringent demands of its more storied neighbors, favoring a more forgiving playing experience. Its wider fairways and accessible greens create a layout that caters to a broad spectrum of players, while still offering challenges for the accomplished golfer. A course that plays fast and free, with more traditional fescue like grasses, it's less about penalizing a slightly errant shot, and more about enjoying a relaxing and picturesque round.
While not a frequent host to major championships, No. 8 serves as a vital component of the Pinehurst experience, offering a contrasting style of golf within the resort's portfolio. The course has played host to several USGA and local events.
Often considered a more relaxed and enjoyable counterpoint to the demanding tests of courses like No. 2, No. 8's clubhouse culture reflects its welcoming nature. The food and staff create a more intimate experience where conversations often revolve around the day's play and the shared camaraderie of the game.
Reviews
Incredible course, incredible experience. Hard to beat pinehurst.
Biggest takeaway was that the greens were unreal
Tom Fazio Great Routing
More of a pines feel than the other Pinehurst courses. A championship test on its own with some really cool visuals. Cool Par 3’s with a great finishing stretch.
I liked #8 a lot but with the separate clubhouse and having to drive to it I really felt like this could have been anywhere. Played with a member who was awesome. Would go back but it’s not a must play.
Definitely leaves a lot to be desired. Extremely different style compared to the other courses at the resort.
