PINEHURST RESORT & COUNTRY CLUB
🇺🇸 Pinehurst, NC, USA
Designed by Keith Evans, Rees Jones
Pinehurst No. 7, the resort's most secluded course, emerged from the same sandy loam that defines the region's golfing soul but offers a distinctly modern counterpoint to its illustrious neighbors. Opened in 1986, this layout diverges from the classic Donald Ross template.
Architect Rees Jones sculpted a course that embraces the natural contours of the land, winding through rolling hills and towering pines, rewarding strategic play over brute force. Expect generous fairways but don't be lulled into complacency; cunningly placed bunkers and subtly undulating greens demand respect. While the resort's other courses have seen numerous iterations, #7 has remained relatively untouched, representing a moment in time.
The course’s relative isolation, nestled slightly away from the heart of the resort, contributes to its unique atmosphere, providing a sense of escape. It's a place where the echoes of history fade, replaced by the quiet rustle of pine needles and the satisfying thud of a well-struck shot. The more relaxed atmosphere is often considered a hidden gem by locals and resort guests looking for an alternative to the higher profile courses.
Post-round, a taste of the South awaits. The resort's traditions run deep, but the club's Arnold Palmer-inspired "iced tea" makes it worth sticking around.
Reviews
Super solid spot
Awesome course, very tight, doesn’t feel like rest of Pinehurst- reminded me of New England golf
You don’t go to Pinehurst to play 7, it’s just an ok filler. A lot of the same elevated tee, down to the fairway, and uphill to the green. Greens very grainy…
