PINEHURST RESORT & COUNTRY CLUB
🇺🇸 Pinehurst, NC, USA
Designed by Ellis Maples, Robert Trent Jones
Pinehurst No. 5 exists comfortably in the shadow of its more heralded siblings, a testament to quiet enjoyment rather than championship pedigree. The early 1960s saw a design from Ellis Maples, carved through the area’s distinctive sandy soil and towering pines, offering a gentler test than its elder siblings.
No. 5 favors thoughtful strategy over brute force. Its fairways, while generous, often reward precise positioning to navigate subtle doglegs and approach demanding greens. Though not a regular host of major championships, it has been a site for regional and amateur events, providing a stage for up-and-coming players to hone their skills, and club members to hone their craft.
While Pinehurst No. 2 may draw the global spotlight, No. 5 remains a treasured course for its dedicated members and resort guests who seek an enjoyable and well-designed round amidst the historic Pinehurst landscape. A place where the walk is as much a part of the experience as the golf itself, it is often the site of member-guest events, corporate outings, and many first-time rounds, building lasting memories. And while you may not find the famed burger dog on this side of the resort, the clubhouse still offers a glimpse into the club’s rich tapestry, best savored after a satisfying round.
