COG HILL GOLF AND COUNTRY CLUB
🇺🇸 Lemont, IL, USA
Designed by Bert F. Coghill, David McIntosh, Joe Lee, Rocky Roquemore

Cog Hill No. 2, "Ravines," carries the weight of a storied past, forever linked to its more formidable sibling, Dubsdread, yet quietly carving its own niche in Chicago golf lore. Carved from the rolling terrain of Lemont, the course showcases a parkland design of the mid-20th century, its fairways meandering through mature trees and strategically placed water hazards.
Architects Dick Wilson and Joe Lee shaped Ravines into a demanding but accessible layout. While its length and rough are less penal than Dubsdread, Ravines presents its own set of challenges: tight, tree-lined fairways demand accuracy off the tee, and subtly contoured greens reward thoughtful approach play. The course favors players who can blend power with precision, navigating doglegs and avoiding strategically placed bunkers.
Ravines has played a supporting role in Cog Hill's championship history, hosting qualifying rounds for events held on Dubsdread. While not a headliner itself, it offers a classic, traditional golfing experience. It presents a fair and challenging test, where success is not just about brute force but smart course management. For many members, Ravines embodies the accessible charm of Cog Hill - a place where camaraderie thrives amidst the gentle undulations and timeless beauty of Chicago golf.
Reviews
Great round with Chad, birdied 1 and 9. Awesome range
Gettable! In good shape but gets a lot of play which is the main issue, PACE!
Cool course. Just don’t play on a Saturday afternoon, it’ll take 5+ hours lol
The Ravines is one of my favorite value plays around Chicago. You just can’t beat what you get for the price here. The whole Cog Hill property has such a great feel to it — from the massive practice area to the well-stocked pro shop and friendly staff that make you feel welcome every time. The course itself gets a ton of play, which is pretty expected these days, but I still really enjoy coming out here. It’s a fun and fair layout with a great mix of holes — some tight driving holes through the trees and a few wide-open spots where you can let it rip. The back nine, especially the holes that dip down into the ravines, are easily the highlight. Nothing too fancy, just a really solid, classic Chicago golf experience that always keeps me coming back.
A little rougher around the edges, but a good value course. Fun with some easy and some harder holes.
Best value at Cog. I do wish that the course was in better condition. Tee boxes were a bit rough and I didn’t play great but still one of my favorite rounds of the year.
