BAKER NATIONAL GOLF CLUB
🇺🇸 Medina, MN, USA
Designed by Dr. Michael Hurdzan
Baker National Golf Club occupies rolling terrain in Medina, a western suburb of Minneapolis, and was designed by Dr. Michael Hurdzan. The course opened in the mid-1990s as part of a larger residential development, reflecting Hurdzan's approach to integrating golf thoughtfully into natural settings. The property features mature hardwoods, wetlands, and elevation changes characteristic of the glacially formed landscape of the Twin Cities region, with fairways routed through corridors of oak and maple.
Hurdzan's design emphasizes strategic variety and playability across different skill levels, incorporating multiple tee boxes and fairway widths that reward positioning over pure distance. The routing takes advantage of the site's natural contours, with several holes playing uphill or downhill and greens that feature moderate undulation. Water hazards and native grasses come into play on a number of holes, requiring thoughtful club selection and course management. The layout balances risk-reward opportunities with more straightforward holes, creating a rhythm that keeps players engaged throughout the round.
Baker National operates as a semi-private facility, offering both membership and daily-fee play. The club serves the northwest suburban golf market and has developed a reputation as a solid test of golf within the Minneapolis area. The course conditions and maintenance reflect standards typical of upscale daily-fee operations in the region, and the clubhouse provides conventional amenities for members and visitors alike.
Reviews
Good muni, good price, long walk, got to keep the ball in play. Definitely a good public test
Great bang for you buck if you can get a tee time.
Owned by Three Rivers Park District, always in great shape. Back nine is very penal which decreases some of the enjoyment and causes pace issues.
