Willie Park

Willie Park Jr., son of four-time Open Champion Willie Park Sr., was himself a two-time winner of The Open Championship (1887, 1889) and one of golf's pioneering architects during the sport's late-Victorian expansion. Beyond his playing success, Park became renowned for spreading championship-caliber design throughout Britain and beyond, authoring numerous layouts that balanced strategic challenge with the natural terrain.

His portfolio demonstrates remarkable range across England, Scotland, and Wales. Sunningdale Old Course remains one of his most celebrated inland designs, while Formby and Gailes Links showcase his command of true links golf. From the Scottish Borders (Selkirk, Jedburgh, Innerleithen) to courses around Edinburgh (Duddingston, Royal Burgess, Bruntsfield Links), Park shaped golf across his homeland.
