von Hagge

Robert von Hagge was an American golf course architect who designed more than 250 courses across more than 20 countries during a career spanning five decades. Born in 1927, he began as a commercial artist before studying agriculture at Purdue University. After apprenticing under prominent architect Dick Wilson from 1955 to 1962, von Hagge established his own firm in 1963, adopting the "von Hagge" surname professionally.

His portfolio spanned diverse geographies and scales, from resort destinations to private clubs. Among his notable works are Le Golf National near Paris (host of the 2018 Ryder Cup), Les Bordes in France, and The Lakes in Sydney. In the United States, his designs include Plantation Preserve in Florida, Grey Hawk in Ohio, and multiple projects in Texas such as Northgate and Houston National. His international reach extended to Mexico (Bosque Real, El Tigre), Spain (Championship at Anfi Tauro), and Denmark (Brakør at Stensballegaard Golf).

Von Hagge's versatility allowed him to adapt to varied climates and terrains, leaving a global footprint before his death in 2010.
