Steve Melnyk, born in 1947, achieved notable success in amateur golf before turning professional and later transitioning to course design. He captured both the U.S. Amateur and British Amateur titles during his competitive career, a rare double that established his credibility in the sport. Following his playing days, Melnyk worked as a golf sportscaster before pursuing golf course architecture.
Melnyk's design portfolio includes several southeastern U.S. courses. Among his works are The River at The Sevierville Golf Club in Tennessee and the Gwinnett course at Country Club of Gwinnett in Georgia. He also designed both Trophy Club layouts—The Trophy of Atlanta in Alpharetta and The Trophy of Apalachee in Dacula. Additional projects include Oak Hills Golf Club in Columbia, South Carolina, and The Champions course at Julington Creek Golf Course in Jacksonville, Florida.
His designs reflect practical, playable golf shaped by his experience as a championship-level amateur and professional competitor.
