Rick Smith is a golf course architect whose portfolio centers primarily on Michigan and includes several courses at major resort destinations. His work demonstrates a range of design approaches, from dramatic clifftop layouts to strategic parkland routings and specialty short courses.
His most celebrated design is Arcadia Bluffs in Arcadia, Michigan, a clifftop course overlooking Lake Michigan that is often named among the most admired public courses in the United States. Smith has also designed multiple courses at Treetops Resort in Gaylord, Michigan—including the Smith Signature course, The Tradition, and the Threetops Par 3 course—as well as two layouts at Turning Stone Resort in Verona, New York: Shenendoah and Sandstone Hollow. Additional designs include Wuskowhan Players Club in West Olive, Michigan, and the R&S Sharf course at Oakland University Golf & Learning Center in Rochester, Michigan.
