Richard Mandell

Richard Mandell is a golf course architect based in Pinehurst, North Carolina. Born in Rye, New York, in 1968, he grew up near some of America's most historic courses, including Bethpage State Park, Westchester Country Club, and Winged Foot. This early exposure to championship layouts shaped his appreciation for Golden Age design, and he drew inspiration from studying the work of A. W. Tillinghast, Donald Ross, Charles Blair Macdonald, and Seth Raynor.

Mandell's portfolio includes work at established clubs across the United States. His projects feature the Blue/Red and Red/White course combinations at Army Navy Country Club in Fairfax, Virginia, the Championship 18 at Braemar Golf Club in Edina, Minnesota, and Keowee Key in Salem, South Carolina. His designs reflect the influence of the classical architects he studied, adapting their timeless principles to diverse American landscapes.
