Peter McEvoy

Peter McEvoy OBE (1953–2025) was a distinguished British amateur golfer who later turned his deep knowledge of the game to golf course design. Throughout his competitive career, he earned widespread respect in amateur golf circles before transitioning into architecture and golf administration. As a designer, McEvoy developed a portfolio concentrated primarily in Ireland and the United Kingdom.

His work includes the East course at Powerscourt Golf Club in County Wicklow, a scenic parkland layout often praised for its integration with the estate's historic landscape. Other notable Irish projects include New Forest at New Forest Golf Club in Westmeath, Rathsallagh in Dunlavin, and multiple courses at Fota Island Resort in Cork—Deerpark, Belvelly, and Barryscourt. In England, McEvoy designed several courses at The Kendleshire Golf Club in Gloucestershire, along with layouts at Bristol & Clifton and Playgolf Northwick Park. His international reach extended to San Donato Golf Resort & Spa in Italy.

McEvoy's design philosophy reflected his competitive background, balancing strategic challenge with playability across diverse terrains from Irish parkland to Scottish coastal sites like Seafield.
