John Ball

John Ball was a Pacific Northwest golf course architect active in the early-to-mid 20th century, primarily working across Washington State. His portfolio reflects the development of golf in the region during an era when the sport was expanding beyond major metropolitan centers into smaller communities throughout the Pacific Northwest.

Ball's most notable work is Seattle Golf Club, which has earned recognition as one of the finest courses in Washington. He also designed Bellingham Golf & Country Club, bringing championship-caliber golf to the northernmost reaches of the state near the Canadian border. His work at Meadow Park Golf Club in Tacoma includes both the Championship 18 and the Williams Nine, demonstrating his ability to create varied golf experiences on a single property. Ball's reach extended to coastal Washington as well, with Grays Harbor Country Club in Aberdeen representing his designs in that region.

His courses are characterized by their thoughtful integration into the natural terrain of the Pacific Northwest, making effective use of the region's distinctive topography and vegetation.
