James Harrison was a prolific golf course architect whose work concentrated in Pennsylvania and surrounding Mid-Atlantic states during the mid-20th century. His portfolio reflects a strong regional presence, with designs ranging from private country clubs to municipal facilities across Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia, Maryland, and New York.
Harrison's most highly regarded design is Sewickley Heights Golf Club, located in the Pittsburgh suburbs. The course demonstrates his ability to work within varied Pennsylvania terrain and create layouts that have endured for decades. He also designed Warwick Hills Golf & Country Club in Grand Blanc, Michigan, which gained national attention as the longtime host of PGA Tour events.
