Gene Bates has designed courses across a broad geographic range, from resort destinations to daily-fee facilities. His portfolio includes the Serapong course at Sentosa Golf Club in Singapore, a layout frequently cited among Asia's most distinguished championship tests, and Due Process in New Jersey, which has earned recognition for its strategic design on reclaimed farmland.
In the western United States, Bates created both courses at Soldier Hollow Golf Club in Utah—Gold and Silver—along with Circling Raven at Coeur d'Alene Casino in Idaho. His work at Carolina National Golf Club encompasses three nines—Heron, Ibis, and Egret—that can be played in various combinations. Other notable designs include the Bayonet and Black Horse courses in California, Kelly Plantation in Florida's Panhandle, and Westfields in Virginia.
